This year’s Midwest Archives Conference Annual Meeting is fast approaching, and early registration ends March 19.
Looking for timely information on how to respond to a disaster in your archives, or just need additional continuing education hours? MAC 2014 in Kansas City has a workshop for you: Hilary Seo (Iowa State University), Melissa Tedone (Iowa State University), and Whitney Baker (University of Kansas) will show you how to implement your institution’s disaster plan as they present “Soot, Mud, and Mold: Beyond the Basics of Salvaging Archives Collections” from 8 a.m. to 12 noon on Thursday, April 24.
By the end of the four-hour workshop you will know how to implement your disaster plan; make salvage priority and processing decisions; establish emergency response and logistics; learn about safety issues and protective equipment; perform salvage techniques for wet, muddy, and sooty materials; and train other archives staff to perform salvage operations.
Cost for the workshop is $40, and enrollment is limited to 25.
